The Brookhaven High girls’ track and field team will look to defend their MHSAA 5A state title on Friday at the annual state meet.

The BHS girls are coming of a South State Meet Championship win at Hattiesburg High last week.

The BHS boys’ team finished in second place in Hattiesburg at South State. The boys’ team is also the defending 5A state champs.

Junior Ladarius Wilcher won the 400-meter dash for BHS, eighth grader Cooper Wallace won the 3,200-meter run and senior Brodie Ezell, already a decorated state champion, won both the discus and shot put at South State in dominating fashion.

For the BHS girls’ team, junior Chrisiyona Quarles won the 200-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles and junior Jasmine Robertson won the 800-meter run.

In the relay races, the BHS girls’ team won the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay.

The state meet should be a tight competition between BHS and Hattiesburg High on the girls’ side as HHS has a strong group in the some of the sprints and jumping events.
