Bogue Chitto outhit Scott Central 12-10 on Tuesday in the MHSAA 2A second round opener between the schools.
The Bobcats (21-10) had their hopes of winning dashed by eight errors though in a 13-7 loss at SC.
Coach Gareth Sartin and his Bobcats will host game two on Friday at 7 p.m.
One thing that Sartin’s crew can do is score runs. Bogue Chitto lost 13-8 to Pelahatchie High in their first-round opener before coming back to take the series with back-to-back victories of 12-1 and 15-1 last week.
Scott Central (21-6-1) scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to go ahead 8-5. BC cut that advantage to 8-7 after 5.5 innings, but the homestanding Rebels bounced back to score two more runs in the next half inning.
BC used three pitchers in the loss. Starter Easton Sartin threw 56 pitches and relievers Myles Foil (63 pitches) and Tucker Kyzar (32 pitches) kept modest pitch counts in case they’ll be needed later in the series.
The same trio worked the game one loss to Pelahatchie. Colton Frith pitched the game two win over PHS and freshman Tripp McCaffrey pitched the game three win against Pelahatchie.
Frith drove in two runs on Tuesday as did Sartin. Foil, Kyzar and Noah Magee drove in one run each for the Bobcats.
Foil hit two doubles while Magee, Kyzar, Sartin and Frith all had a double each for Bogue Chitto.
The winner of the BC series will take on the winner of the Stringer (18-8) and Puckett (17-7) series. Stringer won game one 6-1 on Tuesday.
