A man wanted in connection with the Tuesday morning shooting of a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper has been arrested.

Stanley Self Jr. was arrested by US Marshals at an apartment complex in Brandon. He is believed to have shot an MHP trooper in the arm at approximately 7:05 a.m. on Hwy. 61 in Bolivar County. The trooper did not receive life-threatening injuries.

Self has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. More charges are anticipated.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing the incident and gathering evidence.
