Families United Training Center in Brookhaven has received a $10,000 Family Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Founded and directed by Falana McDaniel, Families United focuses on helping local adults and children improve literacy and academic achievement, learn life skills to be self-sufficient, and how to function well as a single parent.

FUTC is one of four programs in Mississippi to receive the literacy grant — the others are in Oxford, Biloxi and Como — and one of 95 nationwide.
