MHP: Brookhaven, Smithdale and Arkansas men killed in 3 weekend wrecks

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M reported three fatal motor vehicle wrecks Friday and Saturday.

The first occurred in Amite County Friday at approximately 8:08 a.m. Troopers responded to a crash on Hwy. 569.

A 2004 Chevrolet pickup driven by Anthony Oswalt, age 21, of Brookhaven, was traveling south on Hwy. 569 when it left the roadway, collided with a tree and overturned, according to Cpl. Craig James.

Oswalt suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

Franklin County

At approximately 4:38 p.m. Friday, a three-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 98 in Franklin County claimed one life.

The following vehicles were traveling west on the highway — a 2015 Freightliner tractor truck driven by 39-year-old Nacole Williams of Brookhaven; a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Shaxavier Green of Meadville, age 22; and a 1996 Buick Century driven by 71-year-old Smithdale resident Clifton Ramsey.

While traveling west on Hwy. 98, the Volkswagen collided with the Buick. Afterward, the Freightliner also collided with the Buick. Ramsey, the driver of the Buick, received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

Wilkinson County

On Saturday, May 20, at approximately 3:47 p.m., a 2017 Freightliner tractor truck was traveling north on Hwy. 61 in Wilkinson County when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver — 30-year-old Demarcus Coleman of Wynne Cross, Arkansas — suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

These crashes remain under investigation by MHP.
