Atwood Music Festival returns for 49th year

The 49th annual Atwood Music Festival is Memorial Day Weekend at Atwood Water Park, and the performance schedule is packed.
Friday’s schedule begins at 5:30 p.m. with a flag ceremony, followed by the presentation of the Atwood Pageant winners. At 6 p.m., The Stephens Brothers will take the stage, followed by Lindsey Cardinale at 7 p.m., Kayleigh Clark at 8:30 p.m., and Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monsters at 10 p.m.
Activities continue Saturday with the Atwood Music Festival Songwriter competition, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Back Pavilion. Songwriters participating are Rona Barrett, Montana Beeson, Avery Landrum, Naomi Taylor, Shelby Anderson, Gabriel Bass, Joseph Grice, Justin Young and Doug Duncan. The winner will be announced on the main stage at 6:30 p.m.
The Atwood Pageant winners will take the main stage at 4 p.m., followed by several musical performers and a fireworks show.
Performances will be by: Clear Creek Band, 4:15 p.m.; Tennessee Outlaw Country, 5:15 p.m.; Megan Moroney, 7 p.m.; Joe Nichols, 8:30 p.m.; JT McCaffrey Band at 10:30 p.m.
The fireworks show will be at 10:15 p.m., just prior to the JT McCaffrey Band.
The festival was founded in 1975 by Lawrence County residents who had the dream of creating a festival for locals on Memorial Day weekend. It began as the Lawrence County Bluegrass Festival.
Tickets are $50 for the weekend and are available through Ticketmaster, at Monticello businesses and at the park gate.
