A sophomore, Covington was able to overcome injury and fatigue during a long season to help carry Brookhaven Academy to a second straight MAIS 5A state title. As a pitcher, she posted a 1.72 ERA in the circle while striking out 133 batters in 137 innings.

For her outstanding play, Covington has been named The Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Defensive Player.

Covington walked just 13 batters during the season while playing for her mother, Lisa.

In the title clinching 11-1 win over Oak Forest, she scattered eight hits and gave up one unearned run while striking out three and walking none. She was tabbed as the MAIS 5A Player of the Year.

At the plate, she hit for a .270 average and hit seven doubles and one home run.

Expect Covington to be a highly recruited prospect when her junior year starts at the end of the summer.
