A senior, Hughey did what’s she done throughout her entire varsity career in 2023 — get on base. The Co-Lin softball signee hit for a .434 average while getting 43 hits and driving in 28 RBIS for the Hornets.

For her outstanding work at the top of the batting order, Hughey has been named The Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Offensive Player.

The fleet footed Hughey smacked six doubles, five triples, two home runs and also stole 11 bases for coaches Denise and Scott Leggett.

An outfielder who began her career as a left-handed pitcher, she first made the All-Area team as an eighth grader in 2019. She again garnered those honors in 2021 and 2022.

Her career high batting average this season was a huge part of Loyd Star finishing as MHSAA 2A runners-up.

Don’t be surprised to see Hughey step in at Co-Lin and become an immediate contributor for the Wolves next season.
