Jimmy Johns, of Brookhaven, has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human environmental sciences with a concentration in consumer affairs from the University of Alabama.
The Brookhaven High alum played football as a running back at Bama 2005-2007, rushing 121 times for 564 yards and two touchdowns. He converted to linebacker before the 2007 season ended, which was Coach Nick Saban’s first season at UA.
Johns was dismissed from the team in June 2008 after his arrest on drug-related charges. He pleaded guilty and served 13 months in jail. Johns, now 35, finished his degree in the spring 2023 semester online — earning an A in each class — as he worked his management job at Walmart Distribution. Johns credits his success to a relationship with God, and the support of family and friends. Johns is well-known for his involvement in youth sports.
