The Gloster Arts Project has partnered once again with Dr. A. L. Lott Youth Sports and Mississippi School of the Arts to provide a free summer arts camp.

The camp brings visiting arts professionals to the area to provide instruction to children.

The Brookhaven camp began June 19 and will continue through Friday, June 30. Workshops are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily Monday-Friday, and are open for the public to observe. Workshops for children ages 6 to 17 include visual arts, poetry, music, film, dance, storytelling and ceramics. Since its first camp in 2014, the program also teaches values and provides mentoring.

Classes will also be offered in Gloster and Woodville July 5-21. Though the classes are free, children must be registered to participate. Registration is open at theglosterartsproject.org/registr/ and space is limited.

Local GAP spokesman Curtis Oliver said the Brookhaven classes are full and the children are busy learning. The camp will conclude with a free performance and show on June 30, open to the public. This year’s performer is Grammy Award-winning Cassandra Wilson, a Mississippi native and renowned jazz artist. Wilson will lead a jazz workshop for the campers prior to her performance.

Gloster classes will be at the Gloster Public Library. Woodville classes will be at The Historic Planters Building on Main Street.
