Brookhaven Academy hosting annual soccer tournament Saturday

The beginning of the MAIS girls’ soccer season will once again be marked by the annual tournament hosted by Brookhaven Academy on Saturday at the Hansel King Sports Complex.

Brookhaven Academy is off to a 3-0-1 start to the season. The Cougars and coach Alex Brown beat Hattiesburg Forerunners 3-2 in the season opener at home.

BA tied Manchester Academy 1-1 on the road in its second game and then beat Laurel Christian 4-1 on the road.

In the most recent results for the team, the Cougars beat Hattiesburg Forerunners 3-0 on Tuesday.

Senior Reagan Fortenberry scored two goals for the Cougars in the win and the team also got a goal from eighth-grader Camille Calcote.

Mallory Martin, Karen Hernandez and Fortenberry had an assist on Tuesday.

Junior goalkeeper Ainsley Orr stopped a penalty shot to earn the shutout victory.

The tournament on Saturday will be played on two fields and will feature the Cougars along with Park Place Christian, Manchester Academy, Oak Forest Academy, Parklane Academy, Laurel Christian, Hattiesburg Forerunners, Adams County Christian School, Cathedral School and Washington School from Greenville.

BA will get things started with a 9:40 a.m. match against Parklane on Field 1. Hattiesburg Forerunners and Cathedral School will play at the same time on Field 2.

Tournament play kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with Park Place and Oak Forest playing on Field 1. Laurel Chrisitan and ACCS will match up at the same time on Field 2.

BA plays again at 10:50 a.m. on Field 1 against Discovery Christian, a private school located in Florence. At the same time on Field 2, Washington and Manchester will play.

Oak Forest and Laurel Christian will meet at 12 p.m. on Field 1 while Park Place and ACCS are playing at that time on Field 2.

At 1:10 p.m., Hattiesburg Forerunners and Parklane are paired up on Field 1, while Cathedral and Washington will meet on Field 2 at that time.

The host team is back in action at 2:20 p.m. as BA takes on Washington on Field 1. At that time on Field 2, Discovery and Manchester are set to play.

The 3:30 p.m. match on Field 1 is between ACCS and Oak Forest while Laurel Christian and Park Place are going to tangle at that same time.

Park Place and Hattiesburg Forerunners are scheduled to play at 4:40 p.m. on Field 1 and at the same time it’ll be Parklane and Cathedral playing on Field 2.

The last set of pool play games will start at 5:50 p.m. On Field 1, BA will play Manchester and on Field 2, Washington and Discovery will meet.

The championship match will begin at 7 p.m. on Field 1 and the consolation game is scheduled to start at the same time on Field 2.
