A wildfire that grew to cover 150 acres in Monticello was 100 percent contained as of 9:48 p.m. Thursday.

Just before 5 p.m., Temple Harrison of the Mississippi Forestry Commission said the fire had affected approximately 50 acres at that point. Multiple fire departments, four MFC bulldozer units, and two airplane units were working to fight the blaze.

Harrison said it looked to be an accidental wildfire, burning both sides of Hwy. 27 north of Hwy. 84.

A final update was given by the Monticello Fire Department at 9:48 p.m. said the fire had been 100 percent contained.

“The fire is 100% contained at this time. Fire units are now clearing the scene. Along with MDOT and MHP the roadway was just cleared to be opened back up as well.
