A house fire on East Lincoln Road resulted in the total loss of the home Sunday.

Firefighters from all Lincoln County Volunteer Fire Departments, Mississippi Forestry Commission, and Lawrence County District 3 responded.

“They had to battle temperatures over 100 degrees as well as the fire,” said Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy Peter Griffin. “The ‘feel like’ temperature was 109. Multiple firefighters received treatment on the scene from King’s Daughters Medical Center.”

Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Chris Reid said the fire was already in the attic when firefighters arrived about 2 p.m.

“We fought it for hours,” Reid said. “It’s about a 100-year-old house with heart pine.”

All firefighters are fine today, Reid said, and no one was injured. No one was currently living in the house.
