Lincoln County under Red Flag Warning

Lincoln County is under a Red Flag Warning.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued the warning, in effect from 10 a.m. today until 8 p.m. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

Lincoln County Emergency Management has Lso issued a Fire Weather Watch for Thursday. Critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.

Affected areas include much of South and Central Mississippi, as well as portions of Louisiana and Arkansas. Southwest Mississippi counties affected include Lincoln, Lawrence, Copiah, Adams, Franklin, Jefferson and Jefferson Davis,

Residents should expect low humidity, northerly sustained wind gusts 10-15, with shorter gusts up to 20 mph.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

All burn bans remain in place.
