A grass fire on Crooked Lane was quickly extinguished by firefighters just before noon Wednesday.

The Brookhaven Fire Department and Police Department responded to a report of a fire in a wooded lot just north of Williams Street on Crooked Lane. A resident of an adjoining lot made an effort to wet the area using a garden hose until firefighters arrived.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished in a short time. No residences were affected.
