A suspect has been arrested in connection with an August business burglary in Brookhaven.

On Aug. 17, 2023, the A-1 Stop on Hwy. 51 N was burglarized. On Wednesday, Brookhaven Police officers arrested 19-year-old Chardarious Smith, now facing burglary charges.

Smith, who has a Houston, Texas, address, has probably been living with relatives in Hazlehurst, Police Chief Kenneth Collins said.

“I’m thankful for the hard work of my personnel, my officers and detectives, for the long hours they spent on this case,” Collins said. “I also thank the Hazlehurst Police Department and Copiah County Sheriff’s Office for their unwavering help.”

“We’re still working from Jackson to Vicksburg to Natchez, and we’ll continue to work with anybody and everybody because crime does not stop at the city limits and does not have a 50-hour cap,” said Collins. “We’ll do whatever it takes.”
