Health Inspection Roundup: thirty-two establishments earn A’s

BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven and Lincoln County have a lot of options to satisfy hungry mouths and empty stomachs.  Over the past month and a half, 28 restaurants and eight schools passed health inspections.

Of those 36 inspections, 32 received A ratings from the Mississippi Department of Health, two received no rating and two received B ratings. Eight of those inspections were conducted at schools. 

Alexander Junior High, Brookhaven High School, Brookhaven Elementary, West Lincoln, Mamie Martin Elementary, Loyd Star, Fannie Mullins and Lipsey Middle School all received A ratings from the department of health. A-One Stop #2, located at 1702 US84 E, received an A rating.

Mitchells Special Events and Catering, located at 1203 Hampton Drive, Catfish One, located at 444 US 51 South and Gridiron Grill, located at 1454 Union Street Extension, received A ratings. 

Berean Childrens Home, located at 1180 Bearen Trail SE in Bogue Chitto, received an A rating for the seventh time. Cracker Barrel South, 515 US 51 S, earned an A rating from the department of health. 

Georgia Blue, at 107 South Railroad Avenue, did not receive a rating according to the MSDH database but was listed as having an inspection. The Fish Fry, on 738 Industrial Park Road, and The Auction, 3615 Ruth Drive SE in Ruth, received A ratings. 

Hotels receiving A inspections were Hampton Inn, 1213 Hampton Drive, the Quality Inn, located at 745 Magee Drive and Super 8 Motel, at 1348 Furniture Row Lane. America’s Best Value Inn, located at 811 Magee Drive, received a B rating for not having its permit of last inspection posted.

Betty’s Eat Shop at 126 South Whitworth, received an A rating as did Little Tokyo Steakhouse and Hibachi, 910 Brookway Boulevard. Nursing home The Aspen of Brookhaven received an A rating, it is located at 500 Silver Cross Drive. 

Fast Food restaurants Pizza Hut and Zaxbys received A ratings while Popeyes received a B rating. Popeyes did not have an adequate hot and cold water pressure to earn the B rating. 

The Shack at 550, now known as Melba’s Place, received an A along with Adele’s on the Boulevard. Tip’s Triple Master Grill, whose owner was featured in a Dart that landed close to 1243 US51 North, received an A rating. 

Dog Ear Books and Wildfox Coffee, located at 512 West Monticello Street, received an A rating. Lounge 139, at 139 East Chippewa Street, and newly opened Mississippi Ice Daiquiri Shop, 214 Whitworth Avenue, received A ratings. B-Town Enterprises and Chiefs Grill, 1378 Zetus Road NW, also received A ratings.
