The sounds, sights and smells of a hometown fair are as iconic as the fair itself. As patrons file through the gates of the Brookhaven Exchange Club Fair this weekend, some will hurry toward their favorite rides or games, and others will make straight for the concessions.

The $5 gate fee for people ages 4-54 helps cover the costs of renovations and upkeep throughout the fair — the only permanent fair of its type in the state. Anyone younger than 4 or age 55 and older gets in for free, but everyone needs a $10 armband to ride the rides.

The gate opens at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21, and the fair will shut down at 9 p.m. each night.

This is the final scheduled Exchange Club Fair for 2023, so anyone who wants to ride the rails of the rollercoaster, gallop on the carousel animals, measure their fast pitch, soak a friend at the dunking booth, or fill up on cotton candy and funnel cake needs to show up this weekend in Brookhaven.

Don’t forget the swings, Ferris wheel, basketball shoot, and other games and rides, as well as the opportunity to hang out with friends in a family-friendly environment.
