Veterans Day is quickly approaching, and plans are in the works to honor those in Lincoln County and surrounding areas.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Cpt. Daniel D. Entrican Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2618 will focus on honoring Vietnam-era veterans. The posts’ ninth annual Open House will be 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 728 Industrial Park Road in Brookhaven.
Veterans are asked to bring their DD214 form, a copy of orders, an award, or anything else that shows proof of service between 1960 and 1975. The program and open house are open to the public, with free food and drinks, door prizes, and children’s activities.
A raffled drawing will be at 2 p.m. with several prizes — first: an American Tactical Omni Hybrid 5.56 rifle; second: $300 worth of fuel from RB Wall Oil; third: a $250 gift certificate to The Old Koke Plant; and fourth: a $200 Visa/Mastercard gift card.
Lunch will be 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 1 p.m. All Vietnam veterans will receive gift bags.
On Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11, Lincoln County’s state legislators will honor area veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The Lincoln County Veterans Day Celebration is sponsored by Sen. Jason Barrett, Rep. Vince Mangold and Rep. Becky Currie. The event begins with a dinner at 5:30 p.m. for veterans and their immediate families at the Lincoln Civic Center, followed by a public program at 6 p.m.
“We only have three World War II veterans left in our area — two from Lincoln County and one from Wesson,” said Currie. “We’re going to give them a resolution and just make it their night. Of course, we’re thanking all of our veterans on Veterans Day.”
