Animal Control: Puppies need families to get out of the cold

Brookhaven Animal Control responded Tuesday to a call of a puppy on the side of the road, but it turned out to be a litter of 10.

A stray dog that hangs around the city’s police department had delivered her pups in a nearby backyard. Animal Control officer Christy Baker was able to crawl inside a drainage pipe where most of the puppies were gathered and get them out, one at a time.

Animal Control officer Sharon Norton said the puppies were taken to the city’s pound for temporary safety and warmth, but foster or rescue families are needed as soon as possible.

“They don’t all have to go to one house,” Norton said. “The more fosters, the better. The puppies are about five weeks old — four females and six males.”
