Co-Lin beats Hinds, will host playoff

An 8-1 regular season for the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves finished up Thursday in Raymond with a 13-0 win over Hinds (3-6).

The Wolves scored 10 points in the opening quarter and limited the Eagles to 125 yards of total offense in getting the win.

Co-Lin and Mississippi Gulf Coast both finished with 5-1 records in the MACCC South Division, but the Wolves held the tiebreaker after previously beating Gulf Coast 28-23 in Perkinston.

That means Co-Lin will next host a MACCC state semifinal playoff matchup with Northwest Mississippi (7-2) on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in Stone Stadium.

Northwest defeated Northeast Mississippi 28-27 in overtime on Thursday. Also on Thursday, Gulf Coast beat Jones College 23-0 in Ellisville. That was the first division loss of the season for Jones, which will miss out on the playoffs with a 6-3 overall record.

Gulf Coast travels to East Mississippi (7-2) on Saturday in the other MACCC semifinal game. The Lions beat Mississippi Delta 52-6 on Thursday in Scooba. In other scores from the league on Thursday, Holmes (6-3) beat Southwest Mississippi (1-8) in Summit 45-21, East Central (4-5) beat Pearl River (1-8) by a 42-14 final score and Itawamba (3-6) won 30-25 over Coahoma (1-8).

CLCC head coach Glenn Davis and his staff got 105 yards on the ground and one touchdown from sophomore running back Johnnie Daniels. The Wolves also got a pair of field goals from kicker Brandon Gilliam.

The game on Saturday will be the first time for Co-Lin to play in the postseason since 2018. It’ll be the first home playoff game since 2014, a 44-30 win over Northwest in Wesson.
