Brookhaven Police continue the search for a suspect in a recent “shots fired” case.
On Monday, Nov. 20, at approximately 1:30 p.m., police received calls of gunshots in the area of East Monticello Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. While responding, police received additional calls of shots fired at Penn Street and Lottie Street.
Officers witnessed a white Honda Accord leaving the area, and stopped the vehicle at Lottie Street and MLK.
Police found a weapon upon searching the vehicle and occupants. Two juveniles were later released to their parents.
Brookhaven resident Elijah Maxwell, 19, is wanted in connection with the incidents. He faces four charges of aggravated assault.
“Elijah comes from a good family, therefore I’m asking the family to help us bring him into custody without any incident,” said Police Chief Kenneth Collins. “I also want to remind the citizens that we have been searching for Elijah since this incident, and if we find out you are hiding or aiding any individual with evading the law, you will be charged.”
The motive for the shooting is not known, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 601-833-2424.
