Former Brookhaven Police Chief McKee dies, age 82

Former Brookhaven Chief of Police Fred McKee has died.
McKee died Thursday, Jan. 18, at his home. A Navy veteran, McKee worked two years at Stahl-Urban before going to work for the Brookhaven Police Department as a patrolman in 1965.
In 1989, he was elected Chief of Police, and served until 2001.
McKee was succeeded by Arlustra “Pap” Henderson Jr., who served 2001-2013.
Bobby Bell followed Henderson, 2013-2017. Current Chief Kenneth Collins was elected in 2017.
Former Chief Bell posted a photo and brief comment online — “Chief McKee you will be missed. Just want to say that you [were] one awesome leader.”
Graveside services for McKee were Sunday afternoon, Jan. 21.
