The seventh annual Downtown Jazzed Up Mardi Gras event will take place in Brookhaven Saturday, Feb. 3, 1-6 p.m.

Bounce houses, a 360-degree photo booth, train rides, face painting, and other activities will be available from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Live jazz music will be performed on the Railroad Park stage the entire five hours.

A “second line parade” will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the West Cherokee Street Post Office. It will be led by the Ole Brook Mardi Gras Band from Brookhaven High School.

“A second line parade is when spectators join in or follow as the parade passes,” said Jillian Ricceri of the Brookhaven Tourism Council. “Groups are not only welcomed, but encouraged to follow along, allowing the second line to grow as it marches. Bikes, golf carts, and dogs are also welcome!”

“We will have plenty of Mardi Gras beads and throws for those in attendance,” Ricceri said. “Our downtown businesses and restaurants will have specials throughout the day.”

In the event of inclement weather, Ricceri said the outdoor events will be canceled, but the music will still be performed at Recess 101 on South First Street — children are welcomed.
