West Lincoln, Loyd Star have lifters qualify for 2A state meet

West Lincoln powerlifting coach Brad Bland will send four of his Bears to the MHSAA 2A State Championship Powerlifting Meet next month in Jackson.

WL finished a close second behind Scott Central at the recent 2A South State Meet hosted by the Bears.

First-place finishers for Bland included Haz Boyte (114-pound class) and Braden Hamm (198-pound class). Boyte, a junior, lifted a combined total of 635-pounds. He squatted 230-pounds, bench-pressed 130-pounds and deadlifted 275-pounds.

Hamm lifted a combined total of 1,220 pounds with a 485-pound squat, a 285-pound bench and a 450-pound deadlift.

Coach Adam Smith and Loyd Star will have two lifters making it to state in freshman LaJavion Nelson and freshman Cedric Sanders. Nelson was second in the 275-pound weight class. His combined three lift total was 1,210 pounds. Nelson squatted 465-pounds, benched 225-pounds and deadlifted 520-pounds.

Sanders won the 308+-pound class with a 1,030 total. He squatted 420 pounds, benched 225-pounds and deadlifted 385-pounds.

Also qualifying for state by finishing in the top three in their class for West Lincoln were junior Tyler Hall and junior Chance Stewart.

Hall was second in the 123-pound class with a three-lift total of 635-combined pounds. Hall squatted 230-pounds, bench-pressed 130-pounds and deadlifted 275-pounds.

Stewart was second in the 148-pound class with a three-lift total of 925 combined pounds. Stewart squatted 305-pounds, bench-pressed 215-pounds, and deadlifted 405-pounds.

Boyte, Hamm, Hall, Stewart Nelson and Sanders will lift again at the state meet in Jackson on April 6.
