With the game time moved up to miss potential wet weather, if you got to the Ole Brook Softball Field late on Thursday, then you might have missed out on the varsity matchup.

It took just three innings for the Panthers to capture a 15-2 victory over the visitors from Natchez High. The Panthers also won the junior varsity game that was played after the varsity contest by a 7-6 score in three innings.

The victory moves BHS to 7-7 overall and gives the Panthers their first Region 3-5A win of the season. Ole Brook will have two region games at home next week when they’ll host South Jones on March 26 and Florence High on March 28.

Natchez scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to go up 2-0, but BHS head coach Mandy Vinson saw her team respond with three runs in the first, 10 runs in the second and two runs in the third to earn the win.

Vinson has four seniors on her roster in outfielder Vivi Claire Porter, outfielder Gabby Cameron, first baseman Jenna Fuller and infielder Savannah Ledet, who’s currently out with a finger injury.

Porter batted second and scored three times on Thursday along with driving in one run. Cameron also had one run scored and one RBI and Fuller drove in a run and scored a run too.

Addisyn Tucker pitched the win for the Panthers, striking out seven, walking one and giving up no earned runs on five hits.

Building depth in the pitching staff has been a focus for Vinson and her assistant coaches Krystal Smithhart, Jadeyn Fuller and Sametria Collins.

Sophomore Anna Dooley is also seeing time in the circle and eighth grader Zaylee Reed is another young arm on the roster that’s handling junior varsity pitching duties. Reed started at second on Thursday in the place of the injured Ledet in the varsity game.

Kennedi Dickey led BHS with four RBIs against Natchez and Dooley also drove in three runs while having the lone extra base hit, a double, for the Panthers. Also driving in a run each for BHS were Jayonna Pendleton, Caitlyn Cameron and Tucker. Shortstop Journi Hunt scored two runs and drew three walks at the plate as well.
