Area students win big in math competition

Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Lincoln and Lawrence counties were the primary winners in the recent Junior High Math Competition at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Ten local junior high schools participated. First- and second-place winners in each division will advance to compete at the state competition in April at The Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science.
Winners in the seventh-grade division were: first place, Kaleb Abrams, West Lincoln Attendance Center; second place, Zoey Freeman, Bogue Chitto Attendance Center; third place, Easton Emerson, Alexander Jr. High; fourth place, Brooks Shoemake, Wesson Attendance Center; fifth place tie, Austin Jex from Cathedral School, Carter Cook from Cathedral School, and Price Sistrunk from Topeka-Tilton Attendance Center.
Winners in the eighth-grade division were: first place, Jonah Rutland, Topeka-Tilton Attendance Center; second place, Ivy Thomas, Alexander Jr. High; third place, Matthew Branch, Wesson Attendance Center; fourth place, Georgia McCullough, Alexander Jr. High; fifth place tie, Sciania Rhymes from Rod Paige Middle, and Tristan Holloway from Wesson Attendance Center.
