Brookhaven, Lincoln, Lawrence county schools to close Wednesday

Brookhaven City Schools, Lincoln County Schools, Brookhaven Academy and Lawrence County Schools have announced their campuses will be closed on Wednesday due to the threat of severe weather.

“In response to the forecasted severe weather threat at level 4 in our area, all schools and offices in the Lincoln County School District will be closed,” said Lincoln County District Superintendent Dr. David Martin Tuesday afternoon. “Additionally, all after-school extracurricular activities, including practices and games, will be canceled. Normal operations will resume on Thursday, April 11.”

Brookhaven School District Superintendent Dr. Rod Henderson Tuesday afternoon the city school campuses will be closed Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has placed Lincoln, Jefferson, Franklin, Copiah, Pike and Lawrence Counties under a moderate risk of severe storms. Damaging wind gusts could reach 80 mph with large hail up to golf ball size, tornadoes are likely with some possibly strong. Storms are expected to move through the area between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
