The Loyd Star Hornets (22-6) finished a perfect 8-0 in Region 7-2A play, outscoring second-place Bogue Chitto, third-place West Lincoln and last-place Amite County by a combined run total of 115-10.

Coach Jared Britt and the Hornets will face Bay Springs (3-11) in the opening round of the 2A bracket. Loyd Star will very likely face Pisgah (19-7) in the second round. The first game of the series for the Hornets will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday at home and they’ll travel to Bay Springs for 12 p.m. first pitch on Saturday for game two.

Bogue Chitto and coach Gareth Sartin are the second placed team out of Region 7-2A and have an overall record of 15-11. The Bobcats will face Scott Central (8-16) in an opening round playoff series that will begin at Bogue Chitto on Friday with a 7:15 p.m. first pitch.
Game two of the series will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Scott Central. If a third and deciding game is needed, it will be played at Bogue Chitto on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

West Lincoln (16-16) and coach Tony Davis will be on the road to start their 2A series against the Lake Hornets (15-6). The Bears will play at Lake on Friday at 7 p.m. and then host game two at West Lincoln on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Enterprise Yellow Jackets seeded second out of Region 7-1A

Coach Austin Hood and the Enterprise Yellow Jackets (15-11) will face a familiar foe when they begin the 1A playoffs with a three-game series against French Camp Academy (15-8).

The two teams met last season in a closely contested three-game series won by the Yellow Jackets by a 2-1 margin. Game one will be played at Enterprise beginning at 7 p.m. and the Yellow Jackets will host a third game, if necessary, on Monday.

Cobras finish second in Region 7-3A

With two region losses to their rivals from Franklin County (10-9), the Wesson Cobras and coach Vance Windom will begin the postseason as the no. 2 seed out of Region 7-3A.

That means the Cobras (10-10) will face McLaurin (9-9) this weekend in a 3A playoff series. Wesson hosts game one on Friday at 7 p.m. and the second game of the series will take place at McLaurin at 12 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will be played at Wesson on Monday.

LC Cougars runners-up in Region 6-4A

Lawrence County and coach Seth Avants finished second in Region 6-4A behind Richland (19-5) and ahead of McComb and Raymond. The Cougars (11-9) have a first-round playoff series awaiting them with Pass Christian (7-16).

LC will host the first game of the series in Monticello on Friday and then take to the road to travel to Pass Christian for game two on Saturday. If a third game is needed, it’ll be played back at LC on Monday.

The winner of the series will play the winner of the Sumrall (23-4) and Forest (5-16) series in the second round of the 4A bracket.
