Balls were flying out of the refurbished softball complex at Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Tuesday as the No. 2-ranked Wolves used a combined 27 hits to sweep the visiting Southwest Mississippi Bears 8-2 and 19-0 in an MACCC doubleheader.

CLCC got a three-run home run from sophomore Abby Grace Richardson (Brookhaven Academy) in the opener that made her the new career RBI holder in program history with 129 and counting.

In game two, CLCC got home runs from sophomores Madison Moak (Brookhaven Academy) and Zykeria Cole (Simpson Academy). The Wolves also got two home runs in game two from freshman Taylor Efferson (Holden, La.).

All total, 13 different players on the Co-Lin roster had at least one hit in the doubleheader and Efferson led the way with six combined RBIs in the sweep.

The only real drama of the night was an electrical outage that had to be fixed by Entergy, causing a long delay in game two.

The 25-run differential in the doubleheader was a fitting tribute to retiring Co-Lin Sports Information Director Natalie Davis, who was honored for her 25 years of service to the school in a pregame ceremony.

Co-Lin used a combined four pitchers on the day with sophomore Cara Biswell getting a complete game victory in the opener and freshman Emily Richarde moving to 6-0 on the season with a victory in the finale.

Coach Meleah Howard’s team will host East Mississippi (13-23) in Wesson on Saturday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. EMCC is coached by Co-Lin softball alum Mackenzie Byrd. Co-Lin moves to 34-3 on the season after the sweep of SMCC and is primed to capture the MACCC state title and host the upcoming Region 23 Tournament with a 21-1 record in league action.
