A pair of Lawrence County Cougars have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers with the women’s basketball team at Hinds Community College in Utica. 

Seniors Makayla Hardy and Jamiya Atterberry recently made their pledges to Hinds official with a signing ceremony at the school.

Both players were a big part of the Lawrence County girls’ team, reaching the quarterfinals of the MHSAA 4A playoffs and finishing with an 18-11 record, the most wins for the program since the 2018-2019 campaign. Hardy, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 6.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. Hardy is the twin sister of Lawrence County running back Ahmad Hardy, who signed to play football at the University of Louisiana-Monroe next year. 

Atterberry was a Daily Leader All-Area selection as a sophomore and a senior and this past season the 5-foot-11 forward averaged 10.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game.

Hinds is currently searching for a head coach as Perry Fletcher, who led the program for the last two seasons, recently stepped down.
