West Lincoln wins district crown

The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured their second straight slowpitch softball 7-2A division crown Thursday night after knocking off the Puckett Lady Wolves 6-1 on Senior Night.

Friends and family members gathered to recognize their seniors, Brianna Fauver, Micah Redd, Addie Spring and Malori Hall, for senior night: They received showers of gifts and hugs from their families and friends.

“Puckett did a great job making plays to keep us off the bases,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Overall, I was very pleased with my girls efforts. It was a great senior night. These girls have worked really hard this year.”

The Lady Bears (20-1, 6-0) will resume action Saturday as they participate in Bogue Chitto’s softball tournament. West Lincoln plays Lawrence Co. at 9:15 a.m., Wesson at 10:30 a.m. and Franklin Co. at 2:15 p.m.

W. Lincoln 6, Puckett 1 

The Lady Bears and Lady Puckett battled in a tough defensive bout through three inning of action, before West Lincoln’s offense started to find their rhythm in the fourth inning to break up the scoreless contest by pushing across four runs.

The Lady Bears would add to their lead in the fifth inning to secure a 6-0 lead. The Lady Wolves would score their only run in the six inning as West Lincoln’s defense closed the door on Puckett to collect the win.

MaKennah Redd was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears with no strikeouts and no walks.

Carly Evans suffered the loss for Puckett with no strikeouts and no walks.

Hanna Moak powered West Lincoln’s offense with a home run and a double. MaKennah Redd contributed a double and a single. Millane Lewis provided two singles. Malori Hall ripped a double. Hitting safely were Layton Sills, Brianna Fauver, Micah Redd and Alli Mullins.

Abigail Carter was the top hitter for the Lady Wolves at the plate with two singles. Maddie Hammock and Evans hit a single each.

In JV action, West Lincoln defeated Puckett 8-5.

Ashley Thomas sparked the Lady Bears with two doubles. Megan Gerald fueled the flames with a triple and a single. Jana Case and McKenzie Pyles provided a double and a single each. Sarah Jane Doty had two singles and Morgan Newman hit single.
