The Brookhaven Academy Cougars answered two first inning runs by the ACCS Rebels with five of their own and never looked back Thursday night on their way to an 11 – 5 win. Carter Culbertson capped off the first inning with a towering home-run over the left field fence.

The Rebels cut the lead to one run in the top of the third but the Cougars answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to close the door and cruise to victory and a 2 – 0 record in district play.

Alex Smith led the Cougars at the plate with a triple and a single. JP Jackson, John Coleman, Connor Dorman, Madison Smith and Culbertson each hit safely adding to the total.

Smith, a BA Sophomore, picked up the win striking out seven batters in 3 1/3 innings of work. Bryce White toed the hill the final two frames striking out five and sealing the victory for the Cougars.

BA head coach Casey Edwards commented follow the game, “I’m proud of our guys tonight and we will certainly take the win any way we can get it, especially a district win.” “But for us to continue to be successful we are going to have to eliminate giving our opponents free bases.”

Brookhaven Academy travels to Ben’s Ford Academy in Bogalusa, LA on Monday and will return home Tuesday for a district match-up with Central Hinds Academy.

BA JV defeats ACCS 

Taylor Freeny held the Rebels to four hits while striking out nine batters in five innings of work to pick up a 5-2 win for the JV Cougars.

Freeny, Chase Freeman and Dillon Burt led BA in batting with a single apiece.
