Bears blast Bassfield

The West Lincoln Bears are currently riding a six-game winning streak after defeating the Bassfield Yellowjackets 11-1 Wednesday night in Region 7-2A baseball action at the Cow Palace.

The Bears (7-7, 5-1) will take the remainder of the week off to enjoy the Easter break before returning to action Tuesday. They will host their Lincoln County/Region rivals, the Enterprise Jackets. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Bears and the Yellowjackets elected to go ahead and play their game Wednesday night due to a chance of rain today. West Lincoln quickly dominated Bassfield on the scoreboard to win the game in five innings.

The Yellowjackets scored their only run in the top of the first inning before West Lincoln blast Bassfield in the bottom of the first inning with five runs.

The Bears added one run each in the second and third innings before ending the contest in the fifth inning with a four run surge.

Hunter Maxwell was the winning pitcher for the Bears with five strikeouts and one walk.

Alex Neal powered the Bears’ offensive attack with a double and three singles. Austin Burris contributed two doubles and a single. Ty Forman provided a double and a single. Daniel Spears had two singles. Charles Wayne Smith and Bryce Temple hit a single apiece.
