North Pike knocks off Purvis

PURVIS – The North Pike Lady Jaguars held on to beat the Purvis Lady Tornadoes 5-3 Monday night in slowpitch softball action, even though the Lady Tornadoes outhit the Lady Jaguars 16-13.

The Lady Jaguars came out strong in the first inning and quickly set the pace of the game as they plated four runs against the Lady Tornadoes.

Purvis managed to battle back in the contest in the bottom of the third inning as they scored two runs to cut into North Pike’s lead at 4-2.

North Pike added another run to its lead in the top of the fifth inning to lead 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Tornadoes came out swinging and threatened to rally back as they scored one run to cut into North Pike’s lead at 5-3, but the Lady Jags’ defense held strong and denied their attempt to secure the victory.

Whitley Howell was the winning pitcher for the Lady Jaguars with one strikeout and one walk.

Skye James powered North Pike’s offense with a home run and a double. Jami Spears had a big night at the plate with four singles. Madison Bates contributed three singles. Madison Moak had two singles. Janay Maxwell and Whitley Howell hit safely.

In junior varsity action,  North Pike defeated Purvis 7-5.

Ariel Johnson directed the Lady Jags offense with two singles. Brianna Rimes provided a triple. Hitting safely were Katelin Brent, Monica Davis and Joli Spears.
