The Brookhaven Lady Panthers entered a busy Saturday 3-2 overall looking to make two big statements against Warren Central and Sumrall.

The Lady Panthers came out of the double-header unbeaten, taking down Warren Central in game one 5-3 and beating Sumrall 12-7. The two wins on Saturday advanced the Lady Panthers to 5-2 overall heading into spring break.

Brookhaven 5, Warren Central 3

The Lady Panthers and the Vikings would go scoreless into the third inning, where both offenses would pick up the slack.

Both teams scored two runs each in the third to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the fourth inning. The Vikings would add on a run in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Panthers responded in the bottom of the fourth by tacking on three runs and won the game by a score of 5-3.

Junior pitcher Jayden Fuller took the win on the mound for the Lady Panthers. Fuller pitched all four innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Senior Tia Bussey led the Lady Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to carry the Lady Panthers. Six players for Brookhaven recorded a hit in the game. Sophomore Kat Wallace, senior Macy Ziskin and Fuller each drove in one run to round out the scoring for the Lady Panthers.

Senior Megan Stewart led Warren Central at the plate with two RBIs on the afternoon.

Brookhaven 12, Sumrall 7

In a high-scoring affair, the Lady Panthers used their bats to escape from a hungry Sumrall team by a score of 12-7 to sweep the Saturday doubleheader.

The Lady Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, tacking on two runs to take the 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bobcats would follow up strong in the top of the second by scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead and put the Lady Panthers in a hole.

Brookhaven would respond, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last for long as the seesaw affair continued. Sumrall tied the game at seven by scoring three runs.

The Lady Panthers got the best of the up and down game by scoring the final five runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the sweep and defeat Sumrall 12-7.

Junior Madison Thompson took the win on the mound for Brookhaven, but struggled throughout the game. Thompson finished the game throwing 3.2 innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout for the game. Junior Jayden Fuller pitched 1.1 innings of relief and got the save.

Senior Macy Ziskin led the Lady Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-4 and had a team-high four RBIs. Senior Jada Henderson followed up on offense with two hits and three RBIs. Five players drove in at least a run for Brookhaven.

The Lady Panthers will face Salem and West Lincoln at home Friday afternoon. First pitch against Salem is scheduled for noon, with the game against West Lincoln set to start at 4:15 p.m.
