Bogue Chitto Bobcats are winners, regardless

The record books will tell you that the fourth seeded Bogue Chitto Bobcats (5-6) went to Taylorsville on Friday night and lost 47-7 to the powerhouse Tartars (12-1).

It you dig a deeper though, you see a Bogue Chitto team that had already won before the game even started. One year removed from a winless season and coming off a three year stretch that saw the team amass three combined victories during that period, the Bobcats exceeded all expectations when they made the playoffs in their debut season of 2A football.

Taylorsville led 40-0 at halftime and were subbing freely throughout the second half. Demarcus Godbolt scored the loan BC touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Bobcat head coach Garreth Sartin has seen his team play for South State Championships in the not too distant past and is grateful for a senior class that stuck with Bobcat football through some tough times.

“This season is something to build on as we have a lot of players coming back who gained experience this year,” said Sartin. “I was happy for my seniors to have some success and get back to the playoffs. They have stuck it out through some lean years and I’m very proud of them.”

Quarterback Trey Nettles, tight end/linebacker Tanner Gunther, wide receiver Bryce Nolan, lineman Eli Wallace, lineman Steven Moak, and lineman Aiden Greer make up the Bobcat senior class.
