Victim identified in fatal overnight shooting; suspect considered armed and dangerous

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins said one man has died and another remains hospitalized with serious injuries following a shooting at a private party at the Oasis Club shortly after midnight today.

The Brookhaven Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in the location of Justin Anderson, who is considered armed and dangerous. Anderson is wanted for questioning in the shooting of multiple people at the Oasis Club on Martin Street at South First Street.

The victim has been identified as Billy Ray Thomas of Brookhaven by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Robert Tyler. Thomas was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound at University of Mississippi Medical Center, he said.

Collins said seven people were shot following a verbal altercation inside the club.

“Shots rang out,” he said.

Thomas and another man were airlifted to UMMC with severe wounds and five were treated and released from King’s Daughters Medical Center, Collins said.

Anderson is wanted for aggravated assault, but Collins said the charges will likely be upgraded to murder.
