The Wesson Cobras came all the way back to outscore Tylertown 19-0 in the fourth quarter on Friday night, but a failed two-point conversion would keep them from tying the game. Those two points would be the difference as the Chiefs held off Wesson 28-26 in Walthall County.

Wesson trailed 14-0 at halftime and was behind 28-7 at the start of the fourth quarter. That’s when Wesson coach Jeremy Loy says his team woke up.

“Our quarterback Antrelle Sims started making plays and making guys miss,” said Loy. “You could see it fire up our sideline and we were a whole different team in the fourth quarter.”

With three minutes remaining the Cobras scored a touchdown to cut it to 28-26 but were then flagged for excessive celebration. That penalty moved the crucial two-point conversion attempt back to the 18-yard line which allowed Tylertown to easily stop the try.

The Cobras needed to get the onside kick and did so. On a fourth and one they were flagged again, this time for a false start. The following fourth and six was nearly converted on a passing play that Tylertown ultimately stopped.

“The guys played their tails off at the end, but we’ve got to come out playing like that from the start,” said Loy. “I’m proud of the fight they showed, Tylertown has a good team.”

The Cobras will close their season at home on Thursday night against Jefferson Davis County. The game was previously scheduled to be played Friday.
