Loyd Star boys claim the junior high title

The Loyd Star Hornets captured the Lincoln County Junior High Boys Tournament on Thursday night at Enterprise with a win 49-12 over the homestanding Yellow Jackets in the championship game. In the consolation game, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats squeezed past the West Lincoln Bears 24-22.

The Hornets (9-1) used turnovers and rebounds to build their big lead over Enterprise.

“I think the boys came out and were excited to play for a championship this year,” said Loyd Star coach Seth Britt. “The boys knew what they needed to do.”

Loyd Star led 25-12 at halftime.

“I was very proud of both our teams that made it to the finals,” Enterprise coach Shane Adams said. “Getting to play for the junior high championship is a big deal and I’m proud of them. I thought they played hard against good teams.”

Caden Yarborough led Loyd Star with 10 points while Julius Smith, Nathan Mills and Lezeric Brothern added six points apiece. Blake Thornton and Caleb Smith scored five points apiece. Case DeHart and Bryce Ford scored four points each and Colby Terrell rounded out the Hornet scoring with three points.

Travis Delaughter led Enterprise with five points and B.J. Baker chipped in four points. Zack Thompson scored two points and Payne Waldrop rounded out the Enterprise scoring with one point. Other members of the Enterprise team include Tucker Lee, Rhett Burns, Gavin Regouffre, Hunter Givens, Chris Baker, Jerod Nations, Evan Brumfield, Chris Walker, D.J. Daniel and Jake Waldrop.

Bogue Chitto 24,

West Lincoln 22

West Lincoln led 7-4 after one quarter and 14-10 at halftime. After three quarters Bogue Chitto had cut the Bears’ lead to 17-16, and the Bobcats came out on top after a 7-6 final quarter.

Jay May led Bogue Chitto with 16 points. Hunter Gabel and Cameron Williams added four points apiece. Other members of the Bogue Chitto team include Bryce Blackwell, Gabriel Hathorne, Rick Barnes, Jay Leggett, Tucker Blackwell, Matthew Smith, Edward Quarles, Colton Kimble, Easton Sartin, Ken May and Hunter Gobel.

Carter Holcomb led West Lincoln with 10 points and Tristin Rollins netted six points. Zack Taylor scored four points and Josh Thornhill rounded out the West Lincoln scoring with two points. Other members of the West Lincoln junior high team include Carson Temple, Cooper Burnett, Zach Floyd, Matt Newman, Brody Taggart, Brendan Patton, Aiden Lock, Connor Johnson, Javarius Lewis, Kamren Clark and Baylor Sills.
