The organizers of the annual Dairy Day at the Brookhaven Farmers Market are adding an antique tractor display to the festivities.

The Farmers Market opens June 7 at 7:30 a.m. at Railroad Park with Dairy Day starting around 8 a.m., said Rebecca Bates with the Lincoln County MSU Extension Service.

The Friday morning markets — 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — will always be at the park next to South Whitworth Avenue, and the Tuesday afternoon market is held at Godbold Transportation Center. The Tuesday market — which features an air-conditioned building and plenty of free parking — will start June 11.

It’s Dairy Day June 7, and that means free ice cream and chocolate milk from Prairie Farms, free grilled sweet corn from Farm Bureau, visits by area dairy farmers and representatives from the Dairy Alliance and baby goats and calves for the youth to feed and pet.

4-H agent Jennifer Williams and Latoya Sillman will be helping with activities for kids — Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers will be making homemade ice and Lincoln County Master Gardeners will be teaching children how to pot plants.

Farm Bureau is grilling hamburgers to sell during Dairy Day with proceeds returned to the market, Bates said.

About 10 antique tractors will be parked between Fred’s and the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.

Bates is expecting a good selection of vegetables — cabbage, onion, squash, peppers and a limited supply of tomatoes.

Vendors will also offer homemade cakes and pies.

A few new vendors will be featured, she said. One makes soaps and lotions from goat milk and another creates reusable food storage wraps made from honeycomb and fabric.

Local honey will also be sold.

Vendors are still needed for the regular market. No fees are charged for spots. To register as a vendor, call 601-835-3460.

Entertainers are also needed for both the Tuesday and Friday markets.
