The Lincoln County School Board this week approved a $27 million budget, which goes into effect Monday.

The board approved the budget with little discussion. Financial Director Sam Stewart presented the budget at a public hearing June 17.

Stewart said at that time the board would not be requesting a 4 percent increase allowed by the state. Stewart did not anticipate an increase in ad valorem tax based on the budget presented.

The budget, which increased by $2 million over the 2018-2019 budget, will be funded by state, federal and local sources as well as 16th-section funds.

Stewart said the district is putting money proportionately where the students are — Bogue Chitto and Enterprise at 24 percent, West Lincoln at 25 percent and Loyd Star at 27 percent.

Sixty-seven percent of the budget will go to pay for teachers’ salaries.

The next scheduled board meeting will be July 15 at 5:30 p.m.
