Funeral services for Gayle Jackson Evans Sr. will be on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, Mississippi, at noon with burial to follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Judd Vowell of Tupelo, Mississippi, will be officiating the services. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Mr. Evans, 85, of McCall Creek, Mississippi, passed from this life on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on Jan. 3, 1934, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to James Lee Evans and Addie Smith Evans. He was of the Church of God faith. He was a forester by profession with Mississippi State Forestry and Texas Forestry Service and the builder/operator of skilled nursing facilities and also the owner/operator of a cattle ranch. He was the founder of a Mississippi general contractor company. Mr. Evans enjoyed family, black coffee and conducting business. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, employer and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Jim and Addie Evans; wife, Barbara Elaine Jordan Evans; children, Deborah Kaye Evans; granddaughter, Faith Evans; sisters, Eva Nell E. Breland, Mary L. Evans, Irma Lee E. Smith and Anne E. Smith.

Survivors are his children, Gayle (G.J.) Jr., Chance J. Evans (Cynthia); three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
