Wesson Lady Cobras Catherine Wilson and Shelbi Maxwell are staying home to play their college softball. The pair both signed letters-of-intent recently with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves.

“We’re extremely excited to have Shelbi and Cat join our softball family next year,” said Lady Wolves coach Meleah Howard.

Wilson is a senior slugger who plays catcher and can also be used at either corner infield spot.  She hit for a .273 average with 10 doubles and 28 RBIs as a junior. A MAC All-Star game selection and Daily Leader All-Area pick last season, Wilson smacked one home run for the Lady Cobras in 2019.

“Cat is extremely talented behind the plate and at the corners,” said Howard. “She has major power potential in her swing that we plan to focus on.”

Long considered as one of the quickest players in the area, Maxwell is a short stop who can also play in the outfield. As a junior she posted a .582 average with 52 runs scored. A MAC All-Star game pick and Daily Leader All-Area selection, she swatted five doubles and two triples while driving in 16 runs. Maxwell also stole 16 bases. She’s also a point guard for the basketball team.

“Shelbi will bring tremendous speed to our team and it takes that type of speed to make big things happen at our level,” said Howard. “She will be a huge asset offensively and defensively as we plan to utilizer her in the outfield.”

Wesson head coach Michelle Nunnery will have one of the most experienced teams in Region 7-2A this year as Wilson and Maxwell are part of a talented senior class.

“I’m very proud of these two young ladies,” said Nunnery. “Both Cat and Shelbi have put in years of work to be able to play at the next level. They have been great leaders on and off the field. I know that they will both be great assets to the Lady Wolves program.”
