COVID-19 update: Daily cases continue to be lower counts

The daily COVID-19 case rate continues to run low.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Department of Health released its newest coronavirus numbers. For Lincoln County, the count stood at 1,073 total cases and 53 deaths. There were 142 long-term care facility outbreaks and 32 LTC deaths.

Statewide, there were 465 new cases, 36 new deaths and 127 LTC outbreaks. A single confirmed COVID-19 infection in an LTC facility resident or more than one infection in employees or staff in a 14-day period constitutes an outbreak.

The new deaths were listed for the following counties: Benton, Choctaw, Clarke, Desoto, Harrison, Hinds, Jackson, Leake, Lee, Leflore, Pearl River, Pike, Rankin, Simpson, Stone, Sunflower, Tallahatchie and Wilkinson.

After investigation, there were nine COVID-19 related deaths found that occurred between Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. These occurred in the following counties: Clarke, Forrest, Hinds, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Sharkey, Tippah and Yazoo.

The data for K-12 coronavirus cases has not been updated since Sept. 11.

There are currently 505 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, with 162 of those in intensive care and 77 of those on ventilator machines.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, there have been 94,021 cases and 2,846 deaths. More than 85,000 of those cases are presumed recovered by MSDH.

Nearly 800,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the magnolia state. A total of 793,833 tests have been conducted, with 706,009 of those being for detection of the virus, 37,439 for antibodies and 50,385 for antigens.

Local testing is available individuals ages 12 and up at King’s Daughters Medical Center. The COVID Screening site is located behind the Emergency Room and will be open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m-2 p.m Saturday & Sunday.
