11 tornados hit Mississippi during recent storm system

Eleven tornados have been confirmed to have hit Mississippi by the National Weather Service in Jackson during the severe weather system that swept through the state March 22.

Three injuries were reported to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency — one each in Copiah, Clay and Holmes counties.

MEMA is working to validate damage assessments.

Reports from 14 counties have been received, with 224 homes having sustained some type of damage. Twenty-two were destroyed and 34 are considered to have major damage in Attala, Clay, Hinds, Holmes, Kemper and Warren counties.

These damage numbers are preliminary and subject to change throughout the assessment and validation process.
