Guard Jermecia Jones scored 13 points to lead three players indouble figures and the Ole Brook Lady Panthers posted a 51-43Thursday night victory over the West Lincoln Lady Bears. BlancheWilson and Nikki Byrd followed Jones with 10 points apiece as OleBrook won its first game in three outings.

Ole Brook head coach Billy Holmes was witnessed a game of twohalves last night. The difference was night and day.

“The first half was probably the best we’ve played this year,”said Holmes. “We couldn’t get our girls to run our offense in thesecond half.”

The Panthers owned a 35-22 halftime lead, dominating thebackboards and capitalizing on West Lincoln turnovers. GuardBlanche Wilson scored 9 of her points in the first half.

“I thought Portia Dickey had an outstanding game,” Holmes noted.”Jermecia Jones had a great first half. In practice Wednesday shemade 18 of 20 (field goals) in a scrimmage.”

Byrd, a 6-2 sophomore center, finished with 10 points and 4rebounds. Wilson tossed in 10 points. Dickey had 5 rebounds and 9points.

Ole Brook moved ahead by 15 points, 37-22, on Dickey’s shortjumper early in the third quarter. The Panthers went up 18 points,42-24 on a baseline drive by 6-1 sophomore Swayze Black.

The Bears (0-2) mounted a fourth-quarter charge, led by seniorplaymaker Erica Shaw who finished with a game-high 19 points. Theypulled within 7 points, 45-38, on a 17-foot jumper by CandyHerring, with 5:45 left to play, but could come no closer.

West Lincoln lost starting guard Britnee Smith to an ankleinjury with 6:57 left in the game.

“Brookhaven hurt us shooting the ball outside the first half,”said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “Then they hurt us inside. Mygirls played hard and never gave up.”

A series of late, fourth-quarter turnovers derailed the Bears’rally.

On the backboards, Brookhaven held an 18-13 advantage.

Coach Holmes said Saturday night’s games at Bogue Chitto havebeen postponed until a later date.
