Jessie B. Boyd

Services for Jessie B. Boyd, of Summit, are 1 p.m. Saturday,Feb. 28, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel in Brookhaven with burialin Bogue Chitto Baptist Church Cemetery in Pike County.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 10 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Boyd, 92, died Feb. 25, 2009, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter in Brookhaven. She was born on Oct. 22, 1916, to JosephBardwell and Florence Leonard.

She was a machine operator for Stahl Urban Co. She was a memberof Bogue Chitto Baptist Church in Pricedale. Mrs. Boyd was a WorthyMatron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lonnie V.Boyd; her sons, Lonnie V. Boyd Jr. and Lauvaughn Boyd; herdaughters, Faye Roberts and Rosemary Rippy; her brothers, EmmettBardwell, Vernon Bardwell, Woodie Bardwell and Quitman Bardwell;and her sisters, Essie Kilpatrick and Josephine Baker; agranddaughter, Melinda Sue Jordan; a grandson, Ricky Case; and agreat-granddaughter, Michelle Bessonette.

Survivors are a daughter, Evelyn Bigner and husband, Merlon, ofSummit; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Boyd, of Bogue Chitto; her 15grandchildren; her nine great-great-grandchildren; her 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jacob Hampton Burris

Services for Jacob Hampton Burris, of McCall Creek, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Feb. 28, at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home Chapel in McCombwith burial in Concord Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Burris, 96, died Feb. 26, 2009, at the University ofMississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in McCall Creekon Sept. 18, 1912, to Frank Horace and Inez Jane Jones Burris.

He was a retired building inspector for the City of Baker, La.He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where he served as adeacon. Mr. Burris was also a member of the Ben Franklin Lodge No.11, F&AM. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Baker andwas also a ship builder during World War II at Avondale Shipyardsin New Orleans. Mr. Burris was also an avid gardener, who loved togrow roses. He was also a builder of clocks, birdhouses,birdfeeders and garden structures.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Frank andEugene Burris; and his sisters, Velma Arnold and Mable Burris.

Survivors are his wife of 76 years, Jimmie Matthews Burris, ofMcCall Creek; a son, Russell W. Burris, of McCall Creek; adaughter, Ann B. Cagle, of Columbia; his seven grandchildren; his15 great-grandchildren; and his sevengreat-great-grandchildren.

Kelvin Orlando ‘Rabbit’ Cobb

Services for Kelvin Orlando “Rabbit” Cobb, of Dallas, Texas, are1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Gloster First Baptist Church inGloster with burial in Russ Memorial Cemetery in Amite County.Marshall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at thechurch.

Mr. Cobb, 48, died Feb. 19, 2009, in Dallas. He was born inCentreville on Feb. 15, 1961, to Wilbert F. Cobb Sr. and Queen C.Russ VanNorman.

Preceding him in death were his paternal and maternalgrandparents; his two uncles; and his stepfather.

Survivors are his father; his mother; a daughter, Jasmine; hisbrothers, Wilbert F. Cobb Jr., Kenton Cobb and Caesar Cobb, all ofGloster; a sister, Patricia Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.

Shirley Jean Dunn

Services for Shirley Jean Dunn, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Friday, Feb. 27, at New Prospect Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery. Community Funeral Services is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Dunn, 64, died Feb. 25, 2009, in Laurel. She was born inLaurel on Aug. 30, 1944, to Jeff C. West and Susan Andrews.

She was a newspaper deliverer for The DAILY LEADER. She was amember of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her three brothers; anda sister.

Survivors are her husband, James L. Dunn, of Brookhaven; a son,James C. Dunn, of Brookhaven; a daughter, Susan L. Dunn, ofBrookhaven; her brothers, Garland West, of Alabama, Henry West,Billy West and Franklin West, all of Laurel; and her sisters, AnnieHussey, of Alabama, and Hazel Doggett, of Laurel.

David Jackson

Services for David Jackson, of Vidalia, La., were noon Thursday,Feb. 26, at St. Paul Baptist Church in Washington with burial inthe Vidalia City Cemetery. Marshall Funeral Home was in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. Jackson, 69, died Feb. 20, 2009, at Rapides Regional MedicalCenter in Alexandria, La. He was born in Shaw on Feb. 10, 1940, toDaniel and Adeline Ray Jackson.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his sister, Adell White, of Vidalia; his twonieces; his three nephews; a cousin; and a host of other relativesand friends.

Lola ‘Ada’ Jefferson

Services for Lola “Ada” Jefferson, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m.Sunday, March 1, at Williams Mortuary Chapel in Brookhaven withburial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Jefferson, 77, died Feb. 25, 2009, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. She was born in Wesson on May 10, 1931, to Joe Stewart andCora Jackson Stewart.

She was retired.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, JohnJefferson; her daughters; Cora Lee Harris and Annette Jefferson;and her sons, Clifton and Michael Jefferson.

Survivors are her sons, Joseph Jefferson, Harrison Jefferson,Frankie Jefferson, all of Chicago, Ill., and George Jefferson, ofBrookhaven; a daughter, Nadine Jefferson, of Chicago; her sisters,Lottie Young, of Wesson, and Lucy DeMyers, of Brookhaven.
