Brookhaven Academy sacks Copiah Colonels

GALLMAN – Copiah Academy was no problem Saturday for theBrookhaven Academy basketball teams as they cruised to easyvictories. The Lady Cougars got 19 points from guard Terah Winborneand 11 from Laura Beth Wright in a 64-24 triumph over the LadyColonels.

In the varsity boys game, senior guard Jamison Powell poured in28 points as the Cougars roared to a 65-44 victory.

Brookhaven Academy visits Amite School Center Tuesday night.Bowling Green visits BA Friday night.

The Lady Cougars (18-3) led 43-8 at halftime.Anna Lofton made 5 assists and Winborne had 3 steals for CoachBarry Gray’s talented squad.

The Cougars (15-5) had three players in doublefigures. Sidney Chaffin collected a double-double with 19 pointsand 11 rebounds, plus 2 steals and a blocked shot. Jake Reedfinished with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Powell had 8rebounds.

“We played so-so,” said BA boys coach Dale Watts. His team wasup 41-18 at halftime.

Netting 16 points for Copiah was Reece Hankins.

Junior High Action

Brookhaven Academy (11-7) beat Copiah 46-39, led by MadisonWarren with 16 points. Victoria Jordan had 9 rebounds and 8 points.Lindsey Winborne had 8 points, followed by Caroline Stewart with 6,Mary Jordan 5 and Destiny Allen 3. Stewart also made 11 steals.

The Lady Colonels got 15 points from Carleigh Roberts. TaylorWilson had 9 points. K. Vanlandingham and Hunter Hillary had 4apiece.
