Lady Panthers ambushLawrence County 11-10

Megan Bateman and Samantha Boutwell drilled three singles apieceto power the host Brookhaven Lady Panthers to a narrow 11-10 winover the Lawrence County Lady Cougars Tuesday night in divisionslowpitch softball action at the Sports Complex.

“I am so proud of the team,” said Brookhaven head coach LisaCovington. “We gave it everything we had. It was an outstandingoverall effort.”

Contributing to the Brookhaven win with two singles was ChiquitaRancifer. Singling were Ginny Dunaway, Devine Porter, LizzieWilson, Shamika Gilmore and Cortney Fielder.

Vinson (9-8, 2-0) was the winning pitcher and Brooke Nelson wasthe loser.

“We hit the ball well throughout the game,” said LCHS head coachPatsy Sandifer. “Defensively, we made both playing errors andthrowing errors. It was an intense game”

Lawrence County (13-5, 2-1) got four singles from Amanda Givens.Breighanna Dawsey and Ashley Davis collected three singles apiece.Drilling two singles was Stacy Smith. Nelson and Stephanie Dexterhit safely.

In the junior varsity game, Lawrence County tripped upBrookhaven 9-6. Taylor Crane was the losing pitcher.

JaRonda Moore led the Lady Panthers with a home run anda double. Kensy Hoff tripled and singled. Kirstein Johnson andAshley Sykes hit two singles apiece. Brittany Smith, Crane andRachel Blair singled.

Brookhaven visits Florence Saturday. The JV game beginsat 11 a.m. followed by the varsity at 12 noon.
